NBA GUFF – Marcus Thornton, the Bulls bench & is Josh Powell a jerk?

The Bobcats beat the Raptors and DJ Augustin top scored with…hey, hey…wake up, all of you! It’s not THAT boring.

Kobe’s ankle-sprain makes us want to vomit. The guys ankle was at right-angles to his leg! After the game Kobe said that he was was excited to look down and realise that his foot ‘was still straight’.

Marcin Gortat on how to guard Dwight Howard: “it’s still about having big balls and holding your ground when the guy’s trying to kick your ass”.

The Milwaukee Bucks are 26-39 on the season, but when Earl Boykins plays more than 15 minutes, they are 12-11.

We don’t feel sorry for Baron Davis.

Tyler Hansborough dropped 29 points on the Knicks. Yes, New York…your defence is THAT bad.

Eric Gordon is due back in the LA Clippers lineup next week.

Check out the stat-line for Marcus Thornton in the 9 games since he’s joined the New Orleans Hornets. 20ppg, 3.3rebs, 3.1ass, 1.7stl, .469%FG and .425%3pt shooting. Damn!

Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Powell was arrested before Saturday night’s game in Atlanta. It’s reported by police that he refused to move his car that was blocking an ambulance.

In their win over the Jazz, the Chicago Bulls bench combined to score 41 points on 15/21 shooting. Utah, you never stood a chance.

Mikan Drill – 10 March 2011

  1. One of our favourites, or as Ahmad used to say, “that’s my boy”, Sundiata Gaines.
  2. So we’re not the only ones who love McDyess.
  3. Best way to create team chemistry; owe your team money… awkward.
  4. The D-League.  Doesn’t get as much attention around the world as it should; Matt Hubert discusses which teams use the DL the best.
  5. David Falk.  Say no more.
  6. Tony Allen and Defence.  Why is he not getting more coverage?
  7. Howard needs to stop talking.  So do a lot of ballers, now that we think about it…
  8. Stopping the clock for the hometown team?  Too disgusted for words…
  9. Basketball for good.
  10. Sooo when was the last time Stern reacted this way to a game?
  11. Beckley lays down what LBJ needs to learn from Carmelo.

NBA GUFF – The Janitor, Jared Jeffries & the Heat cry sometimes.

The Dallas Mavericks currently have some of the best shooters of all time on their roster.  When you look at the NBA’s list of 3 pointers made all-time, you have Jason Kidd (3rd), Peja Stojakovic (4th), Jason Terry (8th) and Dirk is just outside the top 30 all-time.  But today, who was the difference maker from behind the arc? That would be Brian ‘The Janitor’ Cardinal dropping 4 threes off the bench in a 108-105 win over the T-Wolves. Rick Carlisle said after the game that they wouldn’t have won without Cardinal.

The NBA charges a team a fee to move cities…so for the Sacramento Kings, it’s a cool $30M to the league front-office for the move. $30M… and apparently the NBA isn’t making money at the moment? Damn. Las Vegas Kings…who’s with me?

Andrew Bogut’s latest tweet – if the NBA can do a regular season game in London, why not a pre-season game in Australia?

Speaking of Australians, our own Patty Mills had a killer game for Portland yesterday.  4 x threes for 12 points, with three of those threes coming in the fourth quarter and backed it up with a solid 5pts & 2 assists in 14 minutes off the bench in a win over Orlando today.

Whilst we’re on the Blazers, Nate McMillan has to be a Coach of the Year candidate for what he’s managed to achieve with such a depleted team.

The Miami Heat cry sometimes.

The Memphis Grizzlies are going to give a higher seed HELL in the playoffs…you’ll see.

Amare dropped 31 points in only 24 minutes and Melo had 34 in 30 minutes in the Knicks HUGE win over the Jazz today. But what do we notice? Not necessarily Melo & Amare combining for 65 points or Toney Douglas dropping 20…nope, we like Jared Jeffries. He’s been the defensive presence they desperately needed. The Knicks are 3-1 since Jefferies rejoined the team and whilst there will be jokes around the league about his 1 point in 4 games, we have some better numbers. Win over New Orleans, David West shoots 6-16 and Emeka Okafor shoots 3-7. Win over Atlanta, Marvin Williams shoots 2-7 & Al Horford shoots 2-8. Win over Utah, Paul Milsap shoots 2-6.  You can’t deny the guys impact.

Kyle Lowry is underrated.

Free agency finished…and it seemed like straight away, people were talking NBA Draft. Give us a break and just let us focus on the basketball…not all the things around it.

NBA GUFF – Portland are tired and John Salley the vegan

George Karl has quickly become a Raymond Felton fan. Karl has already said he wants Ray on board in the long-term.

The Miami Heat have waived Carlos Arroyo to make a run at new free agent Mike Bibby.  This makes us sad.

Al Thornton is now our favourite free agent, he was bought out by the Wizards today. Apparently he’s going to sign with Golden State soon.

Portland are tired. So tired. Nate McMillan doesn’t go too deep into his bench and even when he goes 8 or 9 deep into the rotation…the key guys are still playing a tonne of minutes. Wesley Matthews is averaging over 42 mins a game in the last 10 games. LaMarcus Aldridge is at 43, Batum at 39 and 34 year old Andre Miller is playing 37.4 mins a game in the last 10. The Trailblazers are tired…and it showed today. They were pounded by the Houston Rockets IN PORTLAND 103-87 and allowed the Rockets to shoot 58% from the field. Nate, give these guys a rest!

Chauncey Billups is THRIVING with the New York Knicks, averaging 23.3ppg, 6 ass & 5 boards in his first 4 games. But Mr Big Shot may not play against New Orleans after he left the Orlando game with a bruised left quad.

Billups = best Knick point guard since Derek Harper. Yeah, we said it.

Remember when Ben Gordon was such a good offensive player, he was almost feared?  So do we…it seems so long ago.

James Johnson plays for the Craptors (thanks, Basketbawful), but we still love the dude.  8ppg, 5rebs, 3 ass, 1.7blk & 1.3stl in the 3 games for Toronto since coming over from Chicago.

Ex-Detroit Piston John ‘Spider’ Salley now works at a Wellness Centre and is trying to promote vegetarian & vegan diets to NBA players.  Salley claims that he could devise a diet that could get Greg Oden back on the court quicker.

Fast Break – Trade Season

What.  Just.  Happened…

Perk and Nate Rob traded for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic… plus Gody/Semih traded for picks… Mo Williams traded for Baron Davis… best line of the day: “He will blow up to 230lbs and become the laziest shot happy PG in the league…”… OJ Mayo potentially gone for Mcroberts and picks… G-Wallace to Portland for Pryz and picks… Dragic and picks to Houston for Aaron Brooks… Battier to Memphis for Thabeet and picks…
